On November 13th, the Danish embassy in Vietnam will conduct a seminar to share the advances that Denmark has made over the past 30 years that have made it the recognized global leadership in energy and environmental conservation. Over this time period, the Danes have doubled their gross national product while maintaining the same level of consumption of natural resources. They have managed this by creating policies and enforcement procedures, as well as incentives, which make it necessary for businesses to develop good environmental practices.

Over the last 30 years, Denmark’s greening has affected all levels of its society. This has had a particularly interesting effect on the businesses that make up the Danish economy. Not only do all the businesses manage their own environmental policies, many have made this management their main business pursuit. These businesses lead the way in creative solutions to working with the environment not against it.

Denmark is also providing international leadership on environmental stewardship. In 2009 Denmark will host a UN summit geared at producing new binding international legislation for the international community. This summit hopes to create a ‘new Kyoto agreement’ that will continue the efforts of reducing greenhouse gases.

The seminar the embassy in Vietnam is hosting, will seek to share with the Vietnamese leaders and decision makers the techniques and advancements that Denmark has made that could be beneficial to Vietnam and the environment as well.
