If you live in the UK and are thinking of taking a long driving trip, it is a great idea, because no matter which direction you go, the roads are smooth, the views are usually quite nice, and your destination will likely be lovely.
Before you get on the road however, there are a few things that you should do to ensure that your trip is safe and fun. Here is a list that will get you fully prepared for the road.
Make a Map of the Best Service Stations
Before you leave for your trip map it out on Google maps or some other mapping software and make a list of the best places to stop for gas and other necessities along the way. There is a wonderful list of some of the UK’s best service stations, where you can gas up, eat, grab some coffee, and even give the kids some fun activities.
Get Your Car Serviced
Before you leave on your trip, make sure that your car is ready for the drive. This means that you need to take it to a service center to have its vitals checked. Go to a reputable place that will do a full once-over and check the battery, fluids, brakes lights and tyres. Each of these can really present problems for you if they break down on the road. In terms of your tyres, make sure that you spare is good and inflated properly. If anything needs fixing, do it before you get on the road to make sure you are safe.
Enjoy the Drive
When you are in your auto, make a conscious effort to really enjoy the ride. Put on some good music and cruise down the road. This means not so fast that you need 100% attention on the road every second, Just settle into the drive and let the road take you along. Before you know it, you will have arrived at your destination stress free.
If your trip allows for it, stop when you see picture opportunities. The UK has some of the best looking cities and towns in all of Europe. Be careful when pulling your car off the road though, particularly if you are on a winding or one lane road. Use caution and put on your blinkers.
Finally, if you have the time. Feel free to make additional stops at any attractions you might see along the way. Perhaps you have driven this way before and thought about it. Now is the time, particularly if you are traveling with the kids.
